10/6/09 - Frank Krmel Adventures To The Texas State Fair
By Frank Krmel

Untitled Document

The last time I was in Dallas, Texas was in 2005 driving the Karl Malone’s “Power Forward” at the legendary Reunion Arena. Wow, how times have changed. Reunion Arena is no more, and Texas Stadium, which hosted the first ever side by side, by side Monster Truck race back in 1990, is due from implosion soon. But lucky for me, I was able to experience a great Texas tradition, the State Fair of Texas. The statement “everything is bigger in Texas, couldn’t be closer to the truth, especially when it comes to the State Fair. That goes for the Ford Exhibit also. What an impressive sight to see every truck and SUV that Ford produces. The interactive games that were available for everyone to play young and old, (my personal favorite was the Radio controlled F-150 Raptor Baja Racing). If you ever had a question about a Ford truck, it could be answered there. What stood out though, was the 2011 Super Duty. I can’t wait to test drive one myself! I do have to say though, that since I started with the Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder Team, I have had the opportunity to be a part of some pretty awesome events. Starting with the  Monsters on Mainstreet sweepstakes bbq in Tuscola, IL (by the way, the 2010 Monsters on Mainstreet Sweepstakes is up and running at monstersonmainstreet.com) and next, the Woodward Dream Cruise in my hometown of Detroit, then, my first stadium event in Glendale, Arizona. And now, the State Fair of Texas. It is really great getting to experience all these type of events as a part of the Built Ford Tough team. It was so much fun to sit and talk to Monster Jam fans and get an idea of what they want to see, and what they like. Big air and carnage seemed to be the general consensus for the weekend for sure!

Well, I have a few weekends off to enjoy some fall weather, some football, and playoff baseball before I get to jump back behind the wheel of the Built Ford Tough Blue Thunder at Louisville Kentucky’s Freedom Hall, October 23, 24 for two big shows. With a stacked field that includes Gary Porter in Grave Digger, Adam Anderson in TAZ, Whit Tarlton in Monster Mutt, Alex Blackwell in Captain’s Curse, War Wizard, Predator, Bad News, it really is anybody’s game. Also, it’s the annual Halloween costume party during the Louisville Monster Jam Built Ford Tough Party in the Pits, so come on in and show off your costume. Speaking of Halloween, it is right around the corner….And I still don’t know how I should carve MY pumpkin? Any ideas? Send them to webmaster@monsterjamonline.com.I can’t wait to hear/see your ideas.  Who knows, maybe I’ll pick yours, carve it, and put it on my front porch for Halloween!
