Weekend Race Recap
What does Stone Crusher, Maximum Destruction and Grave Digger all have in common? (Other than being Monster Jam Superstars that is) They all won a competition in Syracuse Saturday night before a sold out crowd.
Maximum Destruction driven by Tom Meents began the night with a wheelie win. Tom drove Max D hard enough to get really big air with both hits over the cars bringing the fans to their feet for the first of many times during the two hour event.
It was beginning to look like a Maximum Destruction domination for the night until Steve Sims took the racing win. Sims who lost in the first round came back as round one fast loser defeating Grave Digger driven by Pablo in the semi finals and taking out Max D in the race championship.
Stone Crusher and Max D were no match for Grave Digger in the Freestyle Competition as Pablo drove Digger thru a series of big air, donuts and wheelies. Grave Digger earned the highest score from the judges getting a solid 27 beating out the 25 or Max D and 24 from Stone Crusher.
A big surprise came in the form of Mopar Magic driven by Ricky Ownley. Magic looked great in both the wheelie contest and freestyle but came up a bit short in both contests.
Fans were treated to UTV action for the first time at the New York State Fairgrounds.
These little all terrain vehicles raced side by side bringing the crowd to the edge of their seats several times. UTV’s are quickly becoming a fan favorite at Monster Jam events nationwide.
Quad Wars between Team Mass and Team N.Y. began as a cakewalk for the boys from beantown. As Team Mass.took both the first and second heats. In the main New York raced to the lead early and never looked back. After winning the competition for the evening the Team N.Y. riders led the crowd in a Go Home chant for the Massachusetts competitors.
