Weekend Race Recap

Friday: 8:00 PM

A capacity crowd jammed into Ocala Speedway Friday
night to watch a star-studded line-up compete in the
first of four Advance Auto Part Monster Jam Summer
Heat events, presented by the Southern Ford Dealers at
the asphalt Florida Speedway.

Carl Van Horn opened the night on a roll, winning the
first two competitions of the night. After taking the
victory in the Sky Wheelie competition Van Horn
piloted T-Maxx to the racing victory as well.
Following an opening round victory over Bruce Haney in
Bad News Van Horn eliminated Brandon Harrington in the
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in the semi-finals to
set-up a championship race against Gary Porter in
Grave Digger. Digger actually beat T-Maxx to the
finish line on the modified J-hook style track, but
Porter knocked over the turning pole and the
subsequent five second penalty handed the triumph to
Van Horn.

Porter gained his revenge in freestyle however, as his
high energy big air run earned a perfect score of 30
from the judges to edge Van Horn and Harrington, who
tied for second with scores of 28.

The night's other monster competition was won by Bruce
Haney in Bad News, who showed the crowd why he is
regarded as one of the most exciting donut performers
in the sport. Using his trademark of taking off the
steering wheel in the middle of a set of dizzying
donuts, Bad News topped the Turtle to win the Donut
Competition.

Gary Porter blistered the hot Ocala Speedway surface
with a freestyle that scored a perfect 30 for Grave
Digger, and Brandon Harrington drove Teenage Mutant
Ninja Turtle to a narrow victory over Grave Digger in
the racing finals highlighting Saturday afternoon's
Florida action.

In racing Porter and Harrington were dominant from the
start, Grave Digger beating Bad New and Destroyer to
earn a spot in the finals, while the Turtle used wins
over Destroyer and Stone Crusher to make it into the
championship race. The finale was a phot finish with
the young Harrington nosing out legendary veteran
Porter for the victory.

After scoring a perfect 30 to win the donut
competition Porter was just as phenomenal in freestyle
and recorded the convincing freestyle win for Team
Grave Digger. Also impressive Saturday afternoon was
newcomer Derek Evans, a second generation driver
taking over his Dad's Destroyer for the first time and
putting in strong, competative performances throughout
the afternoon.

action sweeping the racing and freestyle competitions,
while Bruce Haney and Bad News won the donut
competition.

Van Horn's Traxxas sponsored T-Maxx Ford gained
impressive racing wins over Bad News and Stoen Crucher
before edging Brandon Harrington and the Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtle in the championship race. The

"Digger Donuts" earning a 29, only to fall one point
short of donut expert Haney bringing Bad News to the
win with a perfect score of 30.

Onto freestyle where Van Horn was back on top of the
game, T-Maxx bringing the sold out, standing room only
crowd to its feet with a sizzling huge air freestyle
that helf off a brilliant performance by Grave Digger,
T-Maxx earning a 30 to 28 win in the scoring by the

SUNDAY 2:00 P.M.

Gary Porter drove Grave Digger to the racing victory, but the truck broke the front drive shaft at the beginning of freestyle, leaving Carl Van Horn in T-Maxx the freestyle winner wrapping up four wildly popular events at Ocala Speedway.

With another huge crowd on hand Porter finally broke through after a weekend full of racing disappointment. Clearly on a mission to reverse his racing luck at the Florida 3/8 mile asphalt speedway Grave Digger opened racing with a win over T-Maxx, then eliminated Brandon Harrington and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle to move into the finals for a rematch with T-Maxx. Van Horn earned a reprieve after the opening round loss as the fastest loser of round one, then beat Gary Wiggins and Stone Crusher in the semifinals to get another shot at Grave Digger in the racing finals. Porter got the job done in the championship race winning by a truck length over Van Horn for the win.

The donut competition was again won by Bruce Haney in Bad News. Haney won the donut battle three out of the four events in Ocala.

Onto freestyle where Harrington’s Turtle grabbed the lead with a score of 28 from the judges, but Van Horn blasted over everything on the track with several sic air leaps and took the lead with a 29 as Grave Digger pulled on to the track. Porter opened with a huge sky wheelie but when the truck landed he broke the drive shaft, ending the run and leaving T-Maxx on top in freestyle.
